Sea Dragons Find New Home at Scarborough SEALIFE

11th Jan 2010

Sea Dragons will soon be dancing their way to a new home in Scarborough Sea Life centre. The magical creatures, known for their courtship rituals will be the main feature for the Scarborough attraction in 2010.

The Sea Life Centre will welcome two new species of Sea Dragons before the Easter holidays. Visitors will get the chance of a lifetime to see Weedy Sea Dragons and Leafy Sea Dragons.

Although they require a lot of care, the Sea Life team can’t wait to get them onsite.

“Sea Dragons are absolutely mesmerising to watch. They are some of the most beautiful and exotic creatures we will have the pleasure of looking after at the centre” said Senior Aquarist Todd German.

Weedy Sea Dragons perform a rather unusual mating ritual that resembles a dance with each mirroring the other’s every move.

“Scarborough Sea Life Centre has never had Weedy or Leafy Sea Dragons before and we think they will be incredibly popular with our visitors this year” Todd continued

Both species resemble the look of seaweed which allows them to camouflage into their surroundings. Leafy Sea Dragons also have the ability to change colour.

“There are so many amazing facts to learn about these creatures and we can’t wait to be able to tell people more about them” said Todd.

The Sea Dragons will arrive at the Scarborough centre in March ready for the Easter holidays.
